Moong Dal Halwa Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow moong dal (split lentils)
  • 1 cup ghee
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups milk (or water)
  • A pinch of cardamom powder
  • Chopped almonds, cashews, and pistachios for garnish

Method

  • Soak the moong dal for 4–5 hours, then drain and grind it to a coarse paste.
  • Heat the ghee in a pan and add the ground dal. Roast it on a low flame until it turns golden and aromatic.
  • In another pan, heat milk and sugar together until the sugar dissolves.
  • Slowly add the hot milk mixture to the roasted dal. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Cook until the halwa thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
  • Add cardamom powder and mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped dry fruits and serve warm.
